The Future of Work: A Reality We’re Living Today
As we talk about the future of work, it’s easy to imagine a world where AI systems are making all our decisions or handling tasks that once required human effort. It is an important discussion to have, but today I will not go into these scenarios. Instead I would like to share my perspective about an AI partner that is here to augment our abilities and enhance our work.
Human-AI Collaboration: Not Just Tomorrow’s Dream
Imagine you’re working on a major project, and you have an AI assistant that doesn’t just help with mundane tasks but actually collaborates with you. This AI can brainstorm ideas, draft content, and refine your thoughts, all while matching your style and preferences.
Take this article, for example. I’m not writing it alone. I’ve set up a custom Large Language Model (LLM) that understands not only my writing style but also my ideas and positioning. This AI knows how structure arguments and can offer suggestions that challenge and enhance my own. It’s more than just a tool; it’s a collaborator that makes the process faster and more efficient without sacrificing quality.
RFPS and AI: A Perfect Match
Let’s talk about another real-world application of this: responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs). RFPs are critical documents that companies use to win new business, but they can be time-consuming and complex to put together. Here’s where AI comes in, particularly when it’s augmented with company data—a concept known as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
In simple terms, RAG means that the AI doesn’t just generate content out of its training data. Instead, it pulls from a treasure trove of your company’s existing data—like past successful RFPs, internal documents, and relevant examples—to craft a response that’s tailored and accurate. It’s like having an AI-employee that’s been with your company for years, understanding your strengths and knowing how to showcase them effectively.
For example, when working on an RFP, an AI can generate a first draft by pulling in relevant information from your company’s previous winning proposals. It can highlight your company’s unique value propositions and align them with the specific needs of the client. This doesn’t just save time; it ensures that your response is thorough, polished, and perfectly aligned with what’s worked in the past. It answers large parts of the RFP for you if trained correctly and in record time! What used to take weeks can become days or mere hours.
The Expert’s Role: Steering The AI Ship
Even with this AI power, the human expert is still essential. AI can draft and suggest, but it’s the expert who provides the context, makes the final decisions, and ensures everything aligns with the company’s strategy and tone.
Right now, I’m using AI to help craft this article, but it’s my expertise and final touch that make it truly mine. The AI is here to augment my work, not replace it.
In the media, AI-augmented work often seems distant or not yet reliable enough for everyday use. But the reality is that it’s already here, transforming how we work. Many RAG-AI tools available today don’t require any coding skills and can generate high-quality, on-brand content quickly. These tools are far more reliable than standard Large Language Models, significantly reducing the risk of inaccuracies or 'hallucinations.'
